The University of Texas at Arlington is committed to each student athlete as a total person. While the student-athlete at UTA is given an opportunity to attain athletic goals, the objective is to assure the academic success of each Maverick student-athlete.
Under the Direction of Dr. Bill Reeves and Debbie Garcia, both former UTA student athletes themselves, the academic division of the UTA athletic department works closely with student-athletes from all 14 sports on a daily basis.
In order for students to compensate for the hours necessary to prepare for competition, a rigorous academic discipline had to be established to help achieve their potential. UTA's study hall program and tutoring sessions have proven an invaluable asset to the Mavericks. Counselors also assist student-athletes with the rigors of class schedules, registration and meeting the requirements of graduation.
Through the years, UTA's student-athletes have proven they are truly student-athletes. While many Maverick players have distinguished themselves on the competitive field, it takes someone very special to be the best on the field and in the classroom. Recently, several Mavericks have established themselves among the elite, earning GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

ATHLETIC TRAINING
The athletic training staff at The University of Texas at Arlington consists of the head athletic trainer Roy Rudewick and assistant athletic trainers Gina Giamannco and Julie Homuth. Working with UTA's team physicians, the goal of the athletic training staff is to provide quality medical care for all Maverick student-athletes. Each member of the sports medicine team works to provide leadership, advice and service necessary to prevent injury, care for the injured and sick and rehabilitate and recondition the injured student-athlete.
Roy, Giamannco and Homuth make up the full time athletic training staff at UTA. Along with 20 athletic training students, and their team of physicians, they work hard to provide the finest health care for the Texas-Arlington student-athlete. The training staff is fortunate to have a great network of physicians in a variety of specialties in Arlington, as well as throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Also, orthopedic and sports medicine general practitioners make weekly visits to the UTA athletic training room. All of these services and personnel allow the UTA athletic training staff to provide excellent and timely health care for all of UTA's student-athletes.
UTA athletic training offers the latest in treatment and rehabilitation equipment. The main facility is located inside Maverick Stadium and serves all 14 men's and women's athletic teams. This training room houses the staff offices, a hydrotherapy area, a treatment room, taping stations and the rehabilitation room. There is also a satellite facility located inside Texas Hall that is used primarily for volleyball and men's and women's basketball pregame or match treatment and taping.
STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
A newly designed strength and conditioning facility awaits student-athletes of all 14 intercollegiate sports at UTA. The 5,000 square foot facility located in Maverick Stadium was created to help each individual become the best student-athlete he or she could possibly be. The strength and conditioning facility contains state of the art equipment necessary to achieve maximum benefits from strength training.
Along with a staff of experienced coaches, each student-athlete at UTA is given the best possible equipment, supervision and atmosphere. These are all ingredients for a program ready to move into the national spotlight.
